Character Information

Name:Yukio Okumura
Canon: Ao no Exorcist
Canon Point: night of ch 1 before Rin goes for his job interview
Age: 16
History:
here!

Personality:
"I... I both love and hate my brother!... But even more than that... most of all, I hated my weak younger self. The one I really hate, most of all, is myself!"

One could consider Yukio a boy with two facets to him. His mood and manner can change depending on the situation. The most we see of him is a boy clearly above his age. He has been referred to as a genius and rightly so. At 7, he started training as an exorcist and had finally finished his training to become an instructor by the time his brother had just entered his first year of highschool thus making him the youngest exorcist ever to earn the position. Then there’s the fact that he managed to nab the top score in True Cross Academy’s entrance exams. Clearly, Yukio isn’t the sort to take any form of study for granted. As both a student and a teacher, he can be quite stern and throw his focus wholeheartedly into whatever he’s doing. He’s the sort who thrives on perfection, 80% from himself and 20% from his students. Yukio isn’t by any means extremely strict but his strictness comes through when it comes to weeding out the slackers. Unfortunately, his brother seems to be the brunt of his scolding. Yukio puts business before pleasure and has a certain amount of discipline when it comes to these things. It isn’t beneath him to deny himself a chance to enjoy the school festival because he was on shift at that moment. There’s always something that needs to be done, always something that’s more important than his personal wants and needs.

Strictness within himself is a different matter and on a completely different level entirely. Yukio can be quite hard on himself, this being a bi-product of his own perfectionism. Rin can actually be quoted in saying that Yukio hates to lose. Certain expectations have to be met after all when one is a labelled as a genius and he isn’t the kind to let other people down. One mistake can be taken quite harshly and he can dwell on his mistakes which can be a bit of a liability. But it isn’t to say he does so for no reason. He learns from them. However, he doesn’t let his reputation get to his head. Yukio retains a measure of modesty and doesn’t quite take compliments well. These are either brushed aside, explained away or shyly accepted. One can also consider Yukio as a victim of self-hate. He seems to resent his former weakness. As a child, he was quite stereotypically weak. He cried a lot, he was bullied, he got beaten up and it was occasionally up to his big brother to protect him. However, once he started receiving training from Shiro Fujimoto, he threw himself into his work and swore to become stronger to protect Rin. He doesn’t allow himself to show weakness of any sort. After all, no exorcist should show any psychological weakness lest they become target of demons for possession. This causes Yukio to lock his emotions away and give him a somewhat standoffish, aloof demeanor. However, this didn’t mean his self hate disappeared. If anything, it remained, growing even stronger as the years passed. His anger became multi-faceted, directed both outward and inward especially when Rin awoke to his abilities. But this awakening caused Yukio to realize one important thing: he can't escape his demonic nature which is clearly something he's trying to deny, if outright eliminate. His own demonic half awakening is something he greatly fears, emphasized by the conversation he had with one Saburota Toudo regarding them not being all that different. Slaves to an organization, living in his father and brother's shadow, feeling as if his life was laid out before him and he was powerless to stop anything. Needless to say that ever since that conversation, he hasn't quite been the same. However, he'd noticed that this fear had caused something to happen: his demonic half manifesting through his left eye. This is where he starts to drift further from Rin, choosing to experiment on himself by attempted drowning and hurling himself off a building just to attempt to fully manifest his own powers in a search for strength. Powerless. Weak. These are things Yukio resents being called, so much so that he's willing to risk his own life to find power equal to his brother's flames.

At some point one can tend to forget that deep down inside, Yukio is actually a teenage boy. One who has forgotten how to be one, by the looks of things. He flusters when complimented, especially by his female classmates, he has his own classes and homework to worry about, he likes manga, he argues with his brother. All in all, normal things every teenage boy undergoes. He seems to cope with these things easily enough but there’s still the underlying thought that part of him kind of forgot how. His relationships with people outside the militaristic Order of the True Cross are barely existent. Even with his students, he doesn’t present himself as a very sociable creature even if he is their age. He can easily strike one as the quiet sort who sits in the corner, performs well in class, not at all unpleasant to talk to but doesn’t seem to make many friends. He just wants a quiet life, away from the spotlight and with as little problems as humanely possible.

And then we have Rin.

Despite being the younger brother, Yukio finds it his responsibility to shepherd his younger brother. They rarely get along as well as they did when they were children and hardly see eye to eye when it comes to dealing with demons. Yukio can be rather ruthless in this respect and prefers whipping out his guns as opposed to Rin’s method of eventually talking it out or finding some alternate way to deal with a demon who isn’t outright hostile. He keeps his brother in line half because that was what the Church orders him to do and half because he figures this is the best way to keep him safe. This would be exactly what Yukio’s driving force is: to protect his brother. He has quite a feeling of gratitude toward his brother and does things to protect him. He became an exorcist to grow stronger for this exact reason, even if Rin doesn’t seem to know what the best thing for him is. In his opinion, Rin is too complacent and it’s up to him to make sure his brother doesn’t get in over his head. Despite this, Yukio has a measure of jealousy for his twin. Perhaps Rin had it easier than him. He had to work for everything but his brother seemed to have to just have it handed to him on a platter. This, combined with Yukio's "duty" to keep his brother in line leaves them rather hostile against each other at times, almost as if he'd forgotten what it was to have an older brother. You can say that the twins have a very strained, very complicated relationship. Then again, most his relationships do indeed have the same measure of complexity. Though Yukio isn't the most social creature, there are those he has gotten to know in the business. There's Shiemi Moriyama who is the daughter of the Exorcist Supply Store owner who he's been in constant contact with ever since he was in training. Shiemi is a shy girl, possibly one of Yukio's most optimistic acquaintances. They seem to have the most normal relationship, someone Yukio could possibly actually consider a friend. On the other hand, there's also Shura Kirigakure who he seems to share an odd sort of rivalry with. Shura doesn't hold her tongue, throwing teasing insults Yukio's way and calling him things like "scaredy cat" and "moley four eyes". Shura seems to be the one who can get under his skin the most and odd as it is, he lets her. As a child, Shura's carefree manner and seemingly effortless way of beating him in training sessions irked him the most. The teasing certainly doesn't help. Maybe you can call these two friends. Friends are quite a rare thing for the boy to have, it seems and despite the description that's what they seem to be. However, if you would want to pinpoint the most positive influence, the one being who changed Yukio's life it would most definitely have to be Father Shiro Fujimoto. Shiro is a priest who served as an exorcist in the order of the True Cross. He adopted both boys and was the one responsible for Yukio's training as an exorcist. If it wasn't for Shiro, doubtless that Yukio's life would be vastly different. He has plenty of respect for the priest, both as his surrogate father and as "the greatest Paladin that had ever lived". Shiro was father, mentor and hero figure to Yukio growing up and until the moment of his death.

Abilities:
>meisters in both doctor and dragoon which means he's practically qualified to be a doctor and he's also great with guns
>really smart like child prodigy smart
>while it's still dormant in this canon point, Yukio is also capable of some form of satan-related ability. All we've been shown is that it triggers when he's in near mortal danger and is capable of saving him. Somehow. The guy chucked himself off a building and lived, tl;dr It also causes other demons to balk.
Strengths: intelligent, an excellent shot, combat capable (is both support and ranged DPS), trained medic,
Weaknesses: self-loathing, perfectionist, competitive, tempermental, emotionally constipated

God/Shinki: God
Why?: Just picking up where Ashley left o-- ok, serious answer. He's stuck in a follower position so having him take charge would be interesting.
Top 3 Choices: Satan, Ogun (Haitian Voodoo), St. Raphel
God Type: He would most certainly not want to go over the deep end but it would be interesting to see him wrestling with being given the position of Satan and being from a much earlier canon point than Ashley's where the thought of him having satan powers hadn't crossed his mind yet. But being Satan would have him drawn to sin and corruption and all the nasty stuff associated with the position which would contradict his own well-meaning nature.
Power: A small AOE cleansing fire. Could work for minor maladies and small scratches but can cause blight if used too long thanks to the corrupting nature of Satanflame. Not intended for use during summer barbecue.
