[ This one has Yukio settled under a tree today. His attention is focused on a brand new badge which he holds up to the sunlight -- his second so far. It took a while to get but here it was and it seemed to be worth it. In the background, his houndoom's taking a nap in the sun with his Happiny curled up next to him. ]

Everyone's more or less started going after badges at least once during their stay here, right? I'm just a little curious as to why. Personal reasons? Motivation?

[ He'll just take a while to polish off that badge before settling back down against the tree trunk. Pardon him. Someone's feeling a bit philosophical today. ]

Also, I'd like to know if there's any place to get somewhere to put these badges. If anyone's making them, I'd like to go about ordering one.

[ Argh, these little blips he makes on the network. So hard to end them so... have a hasty little awkward smile. ]

That's true. I'm sure if my brother was still here, he'd try and do the same thing.

[ There's a small frown though. ]

You know, that's pretty practical. I just get worried they'll get lost somewhere if I don't put them away. One is easy enough but when you've started collecting them...

I mark you. If I didn't gather mine up, they'd fall out a hole in the stitching sooner or later...

[hmm] I wonder if that power of theirs still works if you take tools to them? Put a hole and a metal ring through them, you could hang them along a little rope or chain.

That's what I'm worried about. After all, we've worked hard for these things... and who knows if we need them sometime soon?

[ A beat though as he considers that. ]

You know, whatever it is that makes birds suddenly realize they can carry things while they're flying.

[ There's a pause there. ]

...I kind of wondered if there was something from the badges that triggered these things.

Oh, there is. Strange as it seems - it's not the HM, I don't even have the HM for that. [8|a] I'll give it a go on the next badge I get. Repeating the challenge is no great burden.

I find it funny that they need to learn the skill before actually doing it.

[ He'll just scrutinize his starraptor for a moment. ]

Hoshi flies all the time.

Maybe they just need the skill to fly long distances without getting lost? Doesn't explain the badge, though.

[ The mysteries of the badges are plentiful indeed. ]

I wouldn't say it's distance... maybe they're just not strong enough to carry us until something in the badge triggers it.

With some of the things I've seen Gertrude cart around, I doubt that.

I have to wonder now if there's anyone out there who knows why exactly we need the badges to allow our Pokemon to do those things...

[...well he tried asking about death once and nobody seemed to have a clue so he's gonna guess no.] You're asking the wrong man. If you're looking for a serious answer, try posing it to the network?

I'd like to test it out myself first before I do so... that probably won't be a while. Who gives out the HM for Fly, anyway?

In Johto, it's the one that's out across the bay, I think. Might be easier just to buy a Pokemon that hatches with it, though, or try adopting one in Goldenrod that's already learned it.

Well, we'll be in Goldenrod pretty soon so I might actually look into that once we get there. It'll make travelling easier, that's for sure.
